Sabena (Belgian flag carrier) & Swiss Air (Swiss flag carrier) went bankrupt in 2001 and legal disputes continue to this day between Belgium and Switzerland.

Belgium is in an eight-year dispute with Switzerland related to claims for damages resulting from the bankruptcy of Sabena and Swissair.

Sabena went bankrupt after Swissair withdrew a 2001 promised capital injection to save the Belgian carrier.

Belgium wants the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to force Switzerland to recognize Belgian court decisions in respect of Sabena claims against Swissair

Belgium wants the ICJ to stay proceedings in Switzerland pending the outcome of Belgian cases for financial damages Swissair Estate.
